Music Director Esa-Pekka Salonen to Part Ways With San Francisco Symphony in the Next 2024 - 2025 Season

California's San Fransisco Symphony announced last Thursday that its current music director, Esa-Pekka Salonen, has resigned and will part ways with the orchestra in the following 2024 to 2025 season.
  • Michael Tilson Thomas’ SFS Return to Carnegie Hall

    The San Francisco Symphony (SFS) led by Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas will perform four concerts featuring repertoire by composers MTT has long championed -- Copland and Mahler -- as well as major symphonic works by Schumann and Schubert, during their 2016 East Coast tour from April 13 to 16. The tour begins with two concerts at Carnegie Hall in Stern Auditorium.

    Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony (SFS) will release a new album, Mason Bates: Works for Orchestra, featuring Bay Area composer Mason Bates's three largest electro-acoustic orchestral works on the Orchestra's SFS Media label on Friday, March 11, 2016. The first full album of Bates's orchestral works features the first recordings of the SFS-commissioned "The B-Sides" and "Liquid Interface," in addition to "Alternative Energy."
