Dee Dee Bridgewater & Irvin Mayfield, 'Dee Dee's Feathers,' Okeh/Sony/DDB (REVIEW)
The Betty Fox Band, 'Slow Burn,' Foxy Cavanagh Productions (REVIEW)
A combination of Janis Joplin and Joe Cocker, Betty Fox's covers of Otis Redding and Willie Nelson have driven crowds crazy in Norway, Denmark and her native Florida. She cuts a dynamic figure on stage and that appeal crosses over to 'Slow Burn.' James Brandon Lewis, 'Days Of FreeMan,' Okeh Records (REVIEW)
In the 1940s, they said Dizzy Gillespie wasn't jazz. Sure it was. It just wasn't swing. Diz called it bebop. James Brandon Lewis, on 'Days Of Freeman,' is going to get the same critcism because he's using a 1990s hip-hop vocabulary. Is it jazz? Who cares?
