The Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival will launch its 31st season with "Russian Memories," a free outdoor concert featuring music of Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, Borodin, Prokofiev and Rachmaninoff, on July 30.
This long-running chamber music festival, held in the beautiful seaside setting of Long Island's East End, features established artists as well as rising stars, and will present 12 concerts through August 24.
Always a destination for new American music, BCMF will present the world premiere of "A Palace Upon the Ruins," by The Lord of the Rings composer Howard Shore, on August 10. The work is scored for mezzo-soprano, flute, cello, piano, harp and percussion. Rising young mezzo Jennifer Johnson Cano is the soloist on this program, held at the historic Bridgehampton Presbyterian Church. This work was co-commissioned by BCMF and La Jolla Music Society.
The eclectic, genre-busting string quartet Brooklyn Rider will perform new and recent works by Gabriel Kahane, Evan Ziporyn and Aoife O'Donovan during two programs on August 9: a 6:30 p.m. Saturday Soiree concert at the Bridgehampton Presbyterian Church, and then a 9:00 p.m. Late Night at the Parrish--a cabaret-style concert in the Parrish Art Museum's Lichtenstein Theater, where guests can enjoy a glass of wine as they listen.
Audience members are invited to explore the mysterious and dazzling music of the Baroque era during "Baroque Fantasy," the annual Wm. Brian Little Concert (named after the late BCMF board member). This August 15 program will take place under a tent on the grounds of the Channing Sculpture Garden, which is adjacent to the Channing Daughters Winery. Wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served before the hour-long program of works by Vivaldi, Telemann, Westhoff and Bach.
Details of all 12 concerts of the BCMF's 2014 season are available at bcmf.org.
