Brooks Wheelan is the next Iron Man….OK! Not really, but Judd Apatow seems to think that the fired SNL actor could follow in Robert Downey Jr’s footsteps. That is right, Robert Downey Jr was a cast member on Saturday Night Live. Meanwhile, Tony Stark’s brother Arno Stark is rumored to replace him in an upcoming movie.
Judd Apatow recently sent a special Twitter shoutout to fired SNL cast member Brooks Wheelan, tweeting:
“.@brookswheelan you will have the Robert Downey Jr. post SNL career! (minus the painful drug addiction). Rock on friend!”
Brooks Wheelan quipped backed, writing:
“.@JuddApatow thanks man! I'm gonna take this time to formally submit myself for the Ironman reboot in 2021 and the Chaplin reboot in 2032.”
Where we are sure Wheelan is joking, it is funny that he chose 2021 as the Iron Man reboot date. There is a comic character known as Iron Man 2020. Arno Stark, Tony Stark's nephew, dawned the then-super futuristic armor in the 1980’s.
A version of Arno Stark has reappeared in the comics recently, as Tony’s brother. Rumor has it that Arno will be brought in to replace RDJ.
Robert Downey Jr himself spoke about being replaced in an interview with Variety about his future as Iron Man:
“The smart money is you have to look at everybody’s age. I’ll put myself at the top of the list. Sooner or later, they’ve got to start over and get somebody young. I’m not there with them yet. It really is the closest thing to being a beloved contract player with a big old-timey studio that there is right now. When you really think about it at the end of the day, these films are entertainment largely driven by young folks. There is something very honorable about that. I run into kids wearing ‘Captain America’ masks. My kid believes that Captain America is real.”
