NBC ‘Blacklist’ Season 2 Spoilers: Liz’s Mom Update and Marvel ‘Avengers 2’ Ultron James Spader Vs DC ‘Arrow’ Count Vertigo Berlin

SPOILER ALERT: During the Season 1 finale of NBC’s The Blacklist it was revealed that James Spader’s Red Reddington was Liz’s father. Now the big question is who is her mother? Meanwhile, the show is pitting Marvel and DC villains against each other. It’s Avengers 2: Age of Ultron’s Ultron vs The CW Arrow’s Count Vertigo.

Executive producer John Eisendrath recently spoke with TV Guide where he opened up about the new season, giving us insight into Liz’s mind:

“If the part about my dad wasn't true, what is the truth, if any, that I need to learn about my mom?"

Eisendrath went on to add that Berlin will still be the main villain for the first part of the season. Berlin actor Peter Stormare has been cast a villain on the DC Comics series Arrow.

Stormare is replacing Fringe’s Seth Gabel as the new Count Vertigo. Gabel’s version of the character, who died during Season 2. Stormare’s version of the character will play Werner Zytle, also known as the New 52 version of the iconic Green Arrow villain. The new Vertigo is reported to make his grand debut in the first episode of Season 3.

However, Stormare’s Count Vertigo is surely no match for Blacklist star James Spader’s Ultron. Spader is the titular villain in Marvel’s Avengers 2: Age of Ultron.

Avengers director Joss Whedon spoke with Empire about Spader’s performance in the upcoming film:

"I'm having a blast with Ultron. He's not a creature of logic--he's a robot who's genuinely disturbed. We're finding out what makes him menacing and at the same time endearing and funny and strange and unexpected, and everything a robot never is."

He went on to praise Spader over Tom Hiddleston, adding:

"I fiercely dislike the idea of just throwing in more people for the sake of doing that. But last time I had all of Earth's Mightiest Heroes versus one British character actor, and I needed more conflict."
