Saturday Night Live is going into it’s 40th season and they have already started making some shakeups. The little used new cast member Brooks Wheelan has officially been fired from the sketch comedy series. Wheelan made the announcement via Twitter in between MTN Dew plugs, writing:
"Had a blast and loved every second of it. I'm totally honored to be able to make this next joke... FIRED FROM NEW YORK IT'S SATURDAY NIGHT!"
However, Wheelen has a fallback position. for the last few days he has been plugging Mountain Dew pretty hard, tweeting:
“some people endorse products to get free stuff. I'd never do that. I have too much integrity and am always busy drinking ice cold @mtn_dew”
After being fired he decided to drown his sorrows, writing:
“Also, still waiting on that can of @mtn_dew.”
Earlier in the year, Wheelan told The Scene that he was grateful to have gotten as far as he did:
“You know, it was pretty cool. Each step of the way I thought it was pretty neat that I had gotten this far, so I didn’t put too much pressure on myself in that way. As far as the audition itself, they saw me perform in Montreal, then in L.A., and then I auditioned on the stage where they shoot the show in New York. It was all scary, but I tried to (minimize that).
Lorne Michaels recently told Deadline about the upcoming cast shakeups, stating:
“We’re still in the middle of rebuilding. So, there will be changes this year.”
