FSU Heisman Winner Jameis Winston To Stay In School And Finish Degree After Sexual Assault Investigation And Shoplifting Crab Legs

FSU quarterback Jameis Winston is setting a good example for student athletes by pledging to finish his degree at Florida State University. His decision to stay in school to complete his schooling is a big step up from his shoplifting exploits back in May, when he was caught on camera taking crab Legs from a supermarket without paying. He is still on notice, however, after being investigated for sexual assault a few years back. The Heisman winner was not charged and the investigation was dropped, however, his accuser said the investigation was botched and she was treated with hostility.

Despite speculation that Winston might leave school early for the NFL Draft, the two-sport athlete has indicated that education is his primary reason for attending university, and that he intends to graduate (via University Herald):

"It's very important to me. I was always raised as a student first and an athlete second," Jameis Winston said. "I think that's the main purpose in college. Some athletes lose that perspective. It's about being a student-athlete, and not just getting that easy money and going to the league. Even if kids leave early, I would want them to come back and get that degree."

He also mentioned that he admires and respects the Manning family, particularly Peyton. In fact, he hopes to emulate the long-term success of Peyton as a pro, but not until he finishes school.

One thing that's clear is that Winston has a lot of growing up to do. He was caught shoplifting this spring and even worse, accused of sexual assault (via ESPN):

"Winston, 20, was part of a high-profile sexual assault allegation that didn't result in any charges, plus an incident in which he was issued a civil citation after sheriff's deputies say he walked out of a supermarket without paying for $32 worth of crab legs and crawfish."
