There is a report going around Facebook and Twitter that claims that the Netflix original series Orange is the New Black has been canceled. According to the story, creative differences between Netflix and the show’s creator Jenji Kohan has lead to all episodes of the series being pulled from the streaming service. Could this report be really real, or is it just another social media hoax?
Empire News recently broke the story that Netflix was canceling the hit original series, Orange is the New Black. According to the report, Netflix co-founder, Reed Hastings recently announced the cancellation via a press statement:
“We regret to inform Netflix members that Orange is the New Black has been permanently cancelled. Also, starting September 1st, 2014, past episodes will no longer be available for streaming on Netflix.”
The report goes on to claim that Hastings and series creator Jenji Kohan had a falling out over the lack of male leads on the show. The story goes on to cite an interview that Hastings allegedly gave the San Jose Mercury News:
“A woman’s place is in the home, in the kitchen, taking care of children. A woman in jail? How does anyone even watch this show in the first place? It’s like we took everything bad about OZ, and make this show with the leftovers.”
However, there is one major problem with this report. It is entirely fake. Empire News is a fake news site. Don’t believe us, check out the websites disclaimer:
“Empire News is a satirical and entertainment website. We only use invented names in all our stories, except in cases when public figures are being satirized. Any other use of real names is accidental and coincidental.

So yeah, always check your sources, and don’t believe anything you read on Facebook. Orange is the New Black will be back for Season 3.
