Pop turned country singer Jewel Kilcher has publicly announced that she and her rodeo star husband Ty Murray have decided to split after 6-years of marriage. On July 2, via 'Pieces of You' performer confirmed that she and Ty were divorcing, but rumor has it the pair will keep the break as harmonious as possible for their son Kase, 3, whose custody they reportedly plan to split. There is now news yet as to exactly how they intend to split their combined net worth, but it is doubtful Jewel will agree to a 50/50 split.
Apparently there is nothing but love lost between singer/songwriter Jewel and bronco buster Ty Murray after spending the last six years marriage and a decade reportedly dating on-and-off before that.
The split wasn't something that Jewel and her soon-to-be ex-husband took lightly; in her blog the former folk singer made it sound as if they tortured each other coming to the tortured decision (via Us Weekly 7/21 Edition):
"We are taking the enormous and heartbreaking step of divorce.
"For some time we have been engaged in a private and difficult, but thoughtful and tender, undoing of ourselves."
According to an insider, who told Us Weekly that Jewel and Ty intended to split custody of Chase as fairly as possible, Kilcher and Murray really are trying to work things out amicably:
"They really are ending s friends.
"Their worlds just became too different with separate schedules and paths in life."
Letting Ty go isn't the only major change that Jewel is said to be making in the coming year.
By all accounts Kilcher is dropping the more modern country style that she has been developing in favor of a return to her own roots (via Us Weekly):
"[Jewel] is currently working on an album inspired by her 1995 debut, 'Pieced of You.'"
Because what the world needs now is definitely another "You Were Meant for Me."
