Roman Reigns Feud With Authority, Randy Orton, Kane On Hold, Showdown With Rusev On Smackdown

Roman Reigns is destined to be the next big thing in WWE. He's just not ready yet. The slow build WWE had in mind for Reigns has been pushed up due to Daniel Bryan's neck injury and CM Punk's unceremonious departure, as well as a general thinness at the top of the card. The major problem with rushing Reigns to the top is just that: it's a rush job. Reigns has all the makings of a wrestling legend, but he still needs seasoning. That's why WWE seems to be striving for a middle ground. Reigns is simultaneously feuding with the Authority and John Cena, and he still had time to work in a showdown with Rusev on Smackdown tonight. It's actually the smart move, slowing down the confrontations with Kane and Randy Orton, as well as putting a hold on the inevitable match with Triple H.

According to inside sources, Reigns was already the next guy selected to climb the ladder at WWE. However, his limitations on the mic and unproven track record as a singles entity necessitated an orientation period during which Reigns could develop as a solo act.

Then Daniel Bryan happened. Then CM Punk happened.

These losses forced WWE into emergency mode (via Examiner):

"That meant that Roman Reigns push had to be pushed up. Originally, the WWE planned a slow burn push for Reigns, moving him up slowly but surely until the fans were almost demanding he win the 'Royal Rumble.' Since the WWE needed him as the star now, his feud with Triple H and Randy Orton has been amplified."

One possible way to extend Roman's "training" in a believable way while still delaying his inevitable title run might be to lessen Randy Orton's association with the Authority. Making the Reigns/Orton feud its own separate thing might help spread the timeline so that Reigns can still face a version of the Authority and still have something to do while waiting for Wrestlemania next year (via Give Me Sport):

"... We need Reigns to face off with a dangerous Randy Orton, the actual Viper himself and not someone doing The Authority's dirty work. We know just how evil and sly Randy can be, he needs to bring back those days in a feud with Reigns to make himself the most hated man in the company once more, and make Reigns the most loved."
