Tonight the new Boy Meets World spin-off/sequel series Girl Meets World is new on The Disney Channel. Recently Ben Savage opened up about the challenges facing the new stars, Rowan Blanchard and Sabrina Carpenter. Savage’s comments are bound to make 90’s kids feel their age.
The official plot synopsis for tonight’s all new episodes, titled "Girl Meets Boy"
“Riley and Lucas connect when they are given a homework assignment that requires them to communicate face to face, rather than through texting.”
In the first we episode, Cory Matthews stepped aside and handed the keys to the world, to his young daughter Riley. However, it is a much different world than it was in the 90’s. Ben Savage recently spoke to TV Guide about some of the major differences:
"In Boy Meets World, we didn't have the Internet, which is so weird to think about! We didn't have a lot of the difficulties that young kids have to deal with today. There was no Instagram, there was no Facebook, there was no cyberbullying, there was no Twitter. ... It's a much more difficult world for kids."
In a previous inteveiw, Savage told TV Guide about singing up for the spin-off:
"The idea for Girl Meets World had been floating and bubbling for a couple months before I actually got a call about it [and] once I got an official call ... I didn't say yes right away. I think there was a little bit of hesitation because we just wanted to make sure that if we were gonna come back and we were gonna do something with the show, that we wanted to do something that we're all proud of and we're all supportive of and that we could all get excited about."
