Spoiler Alert: This article contains predictions about the future of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. A number of wrestling "smarks" seem to have the next couple of months figured out. After a leaked poster advertising John Cena versus Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam was made public, it is assumed that John Cena will retain the title until then. This means he probably won't lose the title at Battleground, and Mr. Money In The Bank Seth Rollins will probably not cash in his contract any time soon, though he has done a great job of teasing it. The briefcase "hanging" over John Cena's head will probably not be dropped until sometime next year. But Rollins is doing good work with the contract angle.
One complaint about the current Heavyweight Title storyline is its transparency (via Bleacher Report):
"But does the company have to make it so evident? Can't it work to make its television program feel more spontaneous and edgy? You want fans heading into the show feeling like anything could happen."
The problem with this thinking is that everyone is so used to instant gratification that they can't stand to let things unfold organically. The fact that everyone knows what's likely to happen over the next few months doesn't mean it's bad storytelling. Fans need to be patient. We can't be surprised all the time. And really, it's not that good for the heart.
Other than being unfulfilled by a lack of swerves to come, there are a lot of exciting possibilities once the immediate chess game plays itself out. The former members of the Shield are each poised for ascension as solo acts, with a possible reunion in a year or two (via Sports World News):
"'I could have really seen The Shield closing down every single show for the next three years,' [Roman] Reigns said. 'I think we had that ability and that we were that hot, I think it's an understatement that the vast majority of the fans loved The Shield. But we didn't have too many opponents left to face. Possibly the Wyatts, but you can't really go above Evolution, especially after beating them twice. Between myself, Dean and Seth, we're doing the exact same thing The Shield was doing, but we're doing it on our own now.'"
