SPOILER ALERT: Superman Returns star Brandon Routh has been cast in Season 3 of Arrow. The former Chuck actor will reportedly play classic DC superhero Ray Palmer, A.K.A. The Atom. It has also been rumored that the Blue Beetle Ted Kord will joining Stephen Amell in the upcoming season, however, Routh’s Palmer may be taking his place.
Stephen Amell promoted Routh’s casting on Facebook along with the message:
“Our world just got bigger.”
Amell wasn’t just referring to the cast getting bigger, he was also making a pun. Amell’s linked fans to a TVLine article that states Routh will be playing Ray Palmer A.K.A. The Atom.
The Atom is a classic DC superhero, whose secret I.D. is Ray Palmer, a scientist who invents a way to change his size and body density.
Palmer might not be the only new character to join the series. In a separate report, TVLine TV Line is has obtained some character descriptions for some of the some of the other new characters coming to Starling City including Dainiel . The TV Line description Daniel as:
“‘DANIEL’ | Though Daniel could be a fake name to throw off spoilerholics, this 20 something gent--a major recurring character for Season 3--is a handsome, enigmatic and highly intelligent entrepreneur developing groundbreaking technology. (Picture a business magnate in Ryan Gosling’s body.) Though exuding charm and confidence in public, he privately harbors a tragic past that will drive him to become a tech-powered superhero. Watch for this formidable fella to be a love interest for Felicity and a rival of Oliver’s--both personally and professionally.”
Daniel was originally speculated to really be Ted Kord, A.K.A. The Blue Beetle. The description certainly fits with the that of the comic book Ted Kord. Kord’s company Kord Industries has already been featured in the series. It is also worth noting that the first Blue Beetle was Dan Garret. However, it is entirely possible that Daniel is really a place holder for Ray Palmer.
