WWE is killing off one of their rising stars because they don't like the gimmick they created for him. Adam Rose, who was born Ray Leppan and has wrestled in recent years as Leo Kruger, is in danger of being killed off by WWE Creative less than three months after his arrival on the main roster and the best reason anyone can give is that Vince McMahon and Kevin Dunn don't like his gimmick. The problem is, people really like him and he's talented. So if WWE is dumping Adam Rose it's really their own fault. Rose got called up from NXT for a reason, and that reason is he could be great.
Sure, some people will never like the effeminate party animal, but he gets a huge crowd reaction every time he comes out. It's just crotchety old critics who miss the days of Hulk Hogan and Lex Luger (via Bleacher Report):
"Sure, Rose's fun-loving party-animal gimmick is different, but is it something fans can take seriously in 2014? Not really. Besides, once you get past the initial novelty value, it isn't even that entertaining."
True, it's always dangerous to lean too heavily on any gimmick, so it would be nice to just let Rose wrestle, like he did at Money In The Bank against Damian Sandow (via Cage Side Seats):
"With Emma, and now Adam Rose, WWE Creative has jettisoned the professional wrestling portions of the acts in favor of solely presenting their comedy schtick. Unsurprisingly, audiences that pay to see professional wrestling have not been receptive to those antics."
While the WWE struggles to find an appropriate balance between promos and wrestling, let's hope they can figure out a way to keep Rose on the roster and give him an honest chance to thrive.
