Joey Chestnut, arguably the greatest competitive eater in the world behind Kobayashi, is sad that Kob won't return to Major League Eating (via TMZ):

"'I miss competing against him,' Chestnut says ... 'He's a great competitor.'

"Joey says he wishes Kobayashi would drop his beef with MLE and figure out a way to return to the big leagues ... but the guy still refuses to sign a contract.

"Joey suggests Kobayashi is just being a sore loser -- sounds like Jaws is calling him out!!!"

Chestnut might miss his face-stuffing buddy, but for today he'll have to put that aside and just concentrate on winning his eighth straight title and possibly setting the new world record.

Just how does a champion hot dog eater train for the biggest competitive eating event of the year? Very carefully (via CBS New York):

"'I'm fasting right now,' Chestnut told reporters, including 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria. 'I'll fast all the way up to the contest. I'll be nice and empty. Lots of liquids today.'

"His technique?

"'Two pieces of meat, then two wet buns,' the champ said. 'Do the same thing over and over again. Try to control my breathing. Get my hands, my throat, my esophagus all working in unison.'"

Be sure to check back later for live results.
