Linebacker Aldon Smith will not be facing charges for allegedly making a bomb threat at LAX in April. Apparently it's in poor taste to suggest you have a bomb whilst in a crowded airport. There are so many rules to remember in this complex modern life. Anywho, the San Francisco LB won't be charged for that crime, however, he could still face jail time for a potpourri of felony charges stemming from the last two years, including drug possession, weapons possessions and two DUI. He pleaded no-contest in May to all charges.
Possibly owing to the fact that Smith was probably naïve about the serious nature of even a casual joke, the LA Attorney's Office won't be pressing charges against Mr. Smith. Unfortunately, however, he still must answer for the weapons and drug charges (via USA Today):
"Smith was among the most energetic and active players during the minicamp, but he faces an uncertain future. Smith will be sentenced July 25 after he pleaded no contest to DUI and felony weapons charges last month. He could receive as many as four years in jail, and he could receive additional punishment from the NFL."
It's no secret that pro athletes like to live it up, and Aldon Smith is no different. He is not accused of beating up or attacking anyone. In his mind he just got caught being a little wild. It's like he said when he was arrested for making that bomb threat in April (via CBS Sports):
"'I'm a good person, and the people who know me know I'm a good person,' Smith said at the time. 'Maybe after this is over, you can tell your friends I'm a good person. Anybody who hangs around me can tell that. A lot of these things are being painted in a picture that's not true.'"
