Are you one of the many people who are still addicted to Breaking Bad? Do you desperately want another fix of the blue meth drama? Going through Walter White and Jesse Pinkman withdrawals? Well we have good news for you. The upcoming spin-off series Better Call Saul has been renewed for a second season, before the first one can even air. That is not. In addition to Bob Odenkirk returning to his breaking out role, there is now a window for Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul to return. It was recently revealed that prequel series will also take place during and after the events of Breaking Bad.
The show’s executive producer Peter Gould recently opened to The New York Daily News about the timeline of the series:
“One of the great things about having a time line which is flexible is that perhaps some of it takes place before ‘Breaking Bad,’ during ‘Breaking Bad,’ and after ‘Breaking Bad'. That gives us the ability to bring back characters that were killed on ‘Breaking Bad.’ ”
However, the show is not going to rest on the laurels of its parent series:
“We think we have a story that is worth making. We could never dream of the kind of success that Breaking Bad had, and the love we got from the fans. But [with Saul] at a certain point you have to do the best job you can and tell the best story that entertains you, get a good response and hope people like it.”
The series has already earned a second season renewal despite the fact that he will not premiere until next year. Gould went on to talk about the impact of the (super) early renewal:
“It’s tremendous for us because we get to plot out two seasons. And the way we work is similar to ‘Breaking Bad’ as it is very serialized and each episode builds on the last. And that gives us a much bigger canvas to play with.”
