John Cena New WWE World Heavyweight Champion 15-Time Winner, 2K15 Cover Announced

The new WWE World Heavyweight Champion is the old one. John Cena is a 15-time champion, just one shy of Ric Flair's WWE record. Cena climbed the ladder at Sunday's WWE Money In The Bank Pay-Per-View Ladder Match and literally grabbed the belts from a cable suspended from the rafters. The championship, stripped from fan favorite Daniel Bryan following his injury and neck surgery, left a huge hole in the main event scene. But the polarizing John Cena filled the vacant title and is likely just holding onto it until Daniel Bryan gets better or Roman Reigns finally gets his big push. Cena is, however, the new cover boy for the video game 2K15.

After a pretty disastrous May, the WWE righted the ship this month. The one thing they haven't done, though, is give the fans what they really want: a champion they can call their own. Even though John Cena's storyline and character are often at odds with the on-camera powers that be, he is very much a corporate champion. Cena is a safe bet- the modern-day Hulk Hogan (via USA Today):

"Many fans were hoping that up-and-coming stars like Roman Reigns or Bray Wyatt would begin their first title reign, but Cena was the last man standing at the end of a brutal match... Although Cena got a good pop inside the TD Garden, the reaction among fans watching from home was less favorable."

Being favored as he is by the executives at WWE as a reliable superstar, he was chosen to appear on this year's 2K video game installment (via Polygon):

"'It is truly an honor and privilege to serve as the WWE 2K15 cover superstar,' Cena said in a prepared statement. 'I look forward to carrying the flag for WWE 2K15, and introducing the incredible next generation of WWE gaming to the WWE Universe.'"
