Hope Solo, goalie for the Seattle Reign, is pleading not guilty to domestic violence charges. Despite her plea, she has apologized for the incident. The accusations of violence against her sister and nephew came at the end of a house party that got out of hand. The case is still under investigation.
Last weekend Seattle Reign goalkeeper Hope Solo went to her sister's house where there was allegedly a party going on. Police were called to the house per a disturbance. When they arrived police noted signs of an altercation and determined Solo to be at fault.
Solo's lawyer maintains his client's innocence and insists that she was the victim (via Seattle Times):
"'Hope is not guilty of any crime,' attorney Todd Maybrown said in an email. 'In fact, our investigation reveals that Hope was assaulted and injured during this unfortunate incident. We look forward to the opportunity to present the true facts in court and to having this matter behind Hope very soon.'"
Just because she is claiming she didn't break the law doesn't mean everything is alright, however. As a professional athlete she apologized for being involved in such an incident (via News Day):
"'I love my family dearly. We, like all families, have our challenges but my sincere hope is that we are able to resolve this situation as a family. Adversity has always made us stronger and I know this situation will be no different.
"'I understand that, as a public figure, I am held to a higher standard of conduct. I take seriously my responsibilities as a role model and sincerely apologize to everyone I have disappointed.'"
This is not Hope's first brush with domestic violence. Her husband, former football player Jerramy Stevens was arrested on suspicion of assault in 2012, one day before they got married.
