Elton John Talks Jesus, Gay Marriage, Pope, and Russian President Vladimir Putin Before Wedding To Partner David Furnish

Elton John is getting ready for his wedding to his partner David Furnish, but before he can do that he has some business to take care of. The openly gay singer recently opened up about religion, stating that he thinks Jesus would support gay marriage. He also praised the Pope for his views on equality. Elton also has plans to meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

Sir Elton John recently told Sky News about religion, as The Guardian reports:

"The church hierarchy, the traditionalists, might be up in arms about it but times have changed. If Jesus Christ was alive today, I cannot see him, as the Christian person that he was and the great person that he was, saying this could not happen. He was all about love and compassion and forgiveness and trying to bring people together and that is what the church should be about."
Elton John went on to praise the current Pope, adding:

"He's excited me so much by his humanity. He's taken everything down to the humility of faith. He's stripped it down to the bare bones and said it's all basically about love and inclusiveness. That has to be encouraged by the Church of England as well."

John is hoping to change minds all over, adding that he plans on meeting with the infamously homophobic Russian president, Vladimir Putin:

"It's no good putting up a wall and saying I'm not talking to these people; the only way things get solved is by talking to people."

Last year the singer spoke with The Guardian: about not canceling Russian tour dates:

"I’ve got to go. And I’ve got to think about what I’m going to say very carefully. There’s two avenues of thought: do you stop everyone going, ban all the artists coming in from Russia? But then you’re really leaving the men and women who are gay and suffering under the anti-gay laws in an isolated situation. As a gay man, I can’t leave those people on their own without going over there and supporting them. I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I’ve got to go."
