Derek Jeter Retirement: Yankee Turns 40 After Tommy Hilfiger Says Jeter Could Be Model

Derek Jeter, on the cusp of retirement, turned 40 this week. The long-time Yankee has made it clear that this is his last season as a professional baseball player. While he has continued to contribute to the Yankee's offense though well past his prime, he will hang up his cleats for good this fall. What will Jeter do after baseball? Designer Tommy Hilfiger says he could be a model. Also, looking back on his memorable career is Oakland A's general manager Billy Beane. Though professional rivals Beane shows a tremendous amount of respect for Jeter and even said he's kinda sad he won't be around next year.

Described as a cross between Benjamin Button and Peter Pan, Derek Jeter has continued to matter long after most players start to embarrass themselves (via ESPN):

"'For Jeter, it only means he's been playing at the top of his position longer than anyone in history.'

"That run has seemed longer to Beane than most. He once said, 'I've spent my whole front-office career waiting for Jeter to slow down.

"'I still hate to see him go,' Beane said by phone Wednesday, 'even though he was party to some of my greatest heartbreak as a GM.'"

The high praise doesn't come only from within the baseball community. Famed clothing designer Tommy Hilfiger thinks Jeter has a promising future as a model (via TMZ):

"Our photog spotted the fashion designer at LAX where we asked the obvious Yankees fan about Jeter's modeling prospects ... and Tommy was quick to point out that Derek already has a hit modeling career with multiple GQ covers under his belt."

At 40, Jeter is still fit, very good-looking and popular even among his rivals. There is no reason Jeter should have trouble finding something to occupy his time after baseball.
