England World Cup Fail: Def Leppard Expected British to Lose Tournament [VIDEO]

England hasn't won a World Cup since 1966. Despite their constant disappointment since that year, most British soccer fans quietly hope for success while expecting the worst. One group of Englanders who aren't afraid to speak their minds, however, is rock group Def Leppard. Members of the band recently admitted to reporters that they weren't very hopeful of England's chances as losing has become sort of the way of things. Englanders just expect to fail. Of course, with that attitude it's no wonder they suffered an early exit from the tournament.

The fatalistic approach most Brits take to the World Cup is reflected in their nation's football anthem, "Three Lions (Football's Coming Home)" which details the frustration and hopelessness of the team (via CBS Local):

"For non soccer enthusiasts, we can compare England's National team to the New York Mets. Now you know how much England's early exit from the World Cup stings.

"Even Def Leppard knew it was going to happen, because 'it's what they do.'"

Members of the rock group Def Leppard didn't shy away from expressing their opinion about Team England's prowess (via TMZ):

"Rick Allen (drummer) and Phil Collen (guitar) -- both born and raised in England -- were at LAX this weekend when they told us losing the W.C. is just part of the Brit's DNA these days.

"'They're just not very ... they haven't quite got it,' Collen says ... 'I think they just haven't got the get-up and go. That's been the British thing.'"

Maybe England would fare better with a more uplifting anthem. What if Def Leppard were to write a new song with slightly more fighting spirit? It's worth a shot.
