Some folks are saying that the NFL's Number One Draft Pick Jadeveon Clowney lied about his health prior to signing with the Houston Texans. Clowney, who just had sports hernia surgery, claims the injury is new. However some people are saying that he hurt his groin during his junior year at South Carolina. If he's telling the truth then there's not much left to the saga. He'll return healthy and good as new in a few months. But what does it say if he lied about it?
The story isn't exactly crystal clear as to how and when Clowney injured himself, but it seems that his agent indicated that there was trouble a few months ago, but Clowney has tried to downplay that aspect (via ESPN):
"'He thought about not participating in his pro day but went ahead anyway, and what a performance,' Clowney's agent, Bus Cook, told the website...
"'Just when I got here, they wanted to check me out, and I told them there was a little pain,' Clowney said. 'They were like, we just don't want it to linger over into the season, so we got it taken care of before anything happened.'"
Of course, if Clowney was lying and he hurt himself during his junior year with the Gamecocks, then many of his critics who said he was not giving his all in favor of protecting his draft status might have been wrong about him (via Fox Sports):
"It helped fuel a narrative that Clowney had quit on his junior season long before the conclusion of it, instead prioritizing his health and NFL Draft stock. This hernia injury doesn't necessarily alleviate all of those questions from last season, but it offers another piece of context that was missing from the discussion."
