The official plot synopsis for tonight’s premiere episode of the new series reads:

Liv Tayler, Ann Dowd, Max and Charlie Carver round out the rest of cast.
The show is based on the novel by Tom Perrotta, who also serves as executive producer. Perrotta recently spoke with TV Guide about the mystery surrounding the show and why he doesn’t want it solved:
“My hope is that [viewers] will understand that the heart of the show isn't about the question of, 'Where did those people go? It's a question of, 'How do the people that are here continue with their lives?'"
The new series airs tonight at 10:00 p.m. on HBO.
