CM Punk may or may not be returning to WWE at some point. What's clear is that the former WWE Champion is definitely enjoying his free time right now. Right now he is still under contract to the sports entertainment giant, which explains the virtual silence on the part of all those directly involved. But most commentators believe that he is just waiting out his contract. At least one industry insider disagrees, though. Fellow wrestler Alberto Del Rio thinks it' just a matter of time before he comes back, though he has no proof to confirm such a claim. Still, Punk's former manager Paul Heyman recently discussed his walkout and while didn't technically say it, he sure made it sound like Punk is retired.
In a recent interview with Chris Jericho, Paul Heyman dished on his former client's state of mind up to a year prior to him walking out (via Cage Side Seats):
"He was unhappy. He had enough. He couldn't take it anymore...A year before he walked, these was daily conversations of, 'I don't think I'm going to be able to take this. I'm not sure how much longer I'm going to be here. I don't know how much longer it's going to be before I just decide to go home.'"
Heyman also made it clear that the decision was a long time coming and that Punk was having a hard time mustering the passion to go out and perform.
Meanwhile, wrestler Alberto Del Rio of Mexico recently said without hesitation that Punk would definitely be back in the ring "soon". It's not clear where Del Rio got his information or if he was just expressing his opinion, but his comments have certainly fueled the debate over whether Punk is coming back (via Cage Side Seats):
"Yeah, of course. He'll be back soon. I don't know when, but he'll back."
