Tiger Woods came back to pro golf yesterday. After healing from back surgery and making his return three weeks early, he sure was rusty but says he feels great. Woods' recovery was apparently quicker than expected. Now he's back on the green and all is right with the world.
The guy who may be the greatest living golfer returned to professional play yesterday. He was admittedly off his game, but confident that he was at least healthy enough to give it a try.
Woods says his main reason for an early comeback was that his charity organization The Tiger Woods Foundation was a sponsor of the Quicken Loans National (via My Central Jersey):
"If this wasn't the foundation and the impact we can have with kids, I probably would not have played. Our goal was the Open. I healed extremely fast thanks to all the different things we did. Obviously I am going to get stronger as time goes on but the risk is minimal. Just like every time you play; you could hit it behind a tree root or have an awkward lie."
Thanks to a successful surgery and a stringent rehab program Tiger says he is completely pain free, however, he is certainly not in top competitive form. Yet he remains positive since it was a difficult course and it was his first time back in competition (via The Guardian):
"'I made so many little mistakes,' Woods said. 'So I played a lot better than the score indicated.'
"Congressional had a lot to do with that. The course played tougher than it did for the U.S. Open three years ago, mainly because of the dense rough."
Expect Woods to take some time off, retool, and show up at the Open Championship July 17 ready to kick some butt.
