As the US Attorney Preet Bharara continues the Federal investigation of famed golfer Phil Mickelson over accusations of insider trading, Mickelson maintains his cry of innocence. Records have been subpoenaed from Clorox and dairy giant Dean Foods to ascertain whether any illegal stock market activity has occurred. Of course, the US Attorney has been scrutinized in the past. In 2013 he was accused by officials and media outlets in India of racist practices at the behest of the American government.
Golfer Phil Mickelson is still under investigation for allegedly accepting stock tips from Carl Ichan, a highly successful trader. Ichan is also accused of tipping off reputed gambler William Walters.
Dean foods, a food and beverage conglomerate who own many brands such as Borden, PET, and Land-O-Lakes has fully cooperated with the Feds as well as pursuing their own in-house investigation (via New York Post):
"'We are reviewing this matter, and our practice is to offer our full support to any government investigation,' the company said in a statement...
"Although Mickelson was cleared on the Clorox trades, he is still in the rough with Dean Foods."
All involved continue to deny wrongdoing as Michelson continues to play golf (via New York Times):
"On Monday, a lawyer for Mr. Mickelson, Gregory B. Craig, said in a statement that 'Phil has done absolutely nothing wrong,' adding that 'He has been cooperating with the investigation' and is currently 'totally focused on getting ready' for the Scottish Open and the British Open."
Of course US Attorney has been under the microscope in recent years, being accused of unfairly targeting Indian citizens and basically called a race traitor by the Indian government (via US News):
"Bharara said the criticism 'might not have bothered me so much except that it bothered my parents.'
"'I had to explain to my daughter, who overheard a conversation in the house, what it meant to be called an Uncle Tom,'"
