TNT ‘Rizzoli and Isles’ New Episode Preview: Barry Frost Death Addressed After Disney’s ‘Jett Jackson’ Lee Thompson Young Suicide

Tonight the hit TNT drama Rizzoli and Isles returns with the second episode of it’s fifth season. The all new episode will deal with the death of Barry Frost. Frost was played by Lee Thompson Young, who tragically committed suicide last fall after struggling with bipolar disorder. Young was also known for his role as the lead in Disney’s The Famous Jett Jackson and his role as Justice League member Cyborg on Smallville.

The official plot synopsis for tonight’s all new episode, titled “Goodbye,” reads:

“A traumatized, blood-covered woman arrives at the station, claiming she killed someone but forgetting the identity of the victim. Elsewhere, the team mourns the loss of a friend and colleague.”

The aptly titled episode will serve a farewell to both Barry Frost and the actor who portrayed him, Lee Thompson Young. The former star of the Disney Channel series The Famous Jett Jackson, tragically took his own life last year after struggling with bipolar disorder.

Thompson Young’s co-star Sasha Alexander, who plays the lead Dr. Isles, recently spoke to the Associated Press about his absence:

“I hope that people who knew him and adored him and loved him on the show will enjoy it and be able to move through it with us.”

She went on to add that the show has not replaced his character:

“They have not replaced him and don’t intend to do so anytime soon. So his seat remains empty, and it’s something that we have had to look at and struggle with from day one of shooting.”

She also went on to discuss the way that TNT and new showrunner, Jan Nash were handling the death:

“I really do think it was very brave of TNT and Warner Bros. and Jan Nash to embark on handling it head-on. They might have been like, ‘I can’t deal with this. I don’t know how to handle this,’ but they didn’t. They went for it and everyone just embraced it, and I think that was really just to show our love for him.”
