Good Morning America co-host Robin Roberts admits that she couldn't have survived cancer without her partner Amber Laign by her side. Perhaps that is why there are rumors that they are engaged perpetually surrounding the couple. Though Amber is much shyer than Robin and has no real taste for the limelight, Roberts can't help but sing Amber's praises in her new book Everybody's Got Something. Robin made it though cancer, but it wasn't the first time life had thrown her a curve ball. During her recent OWN Masterclass episode, Robin recounted her harrowing journey to find her family immediately after Hurricane Katrina had devastated New Orleans.
Good Morning America co-host Robin Roberts is all about putting family number on, especially when there lives are in direct and immediate danger.
During her episode of Oprah's OWN network's Masterclass, Robin Roberts recounted how scary it was to head down to New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina; not because she was afraid to go to the lawless wasteland, but because she had to find her mother and sisters within it (via Inquisitr):
"The funny part is that ABC thought they were sending me down there to report...I was down there to find my mamma and my sister and my niece.
"We make it to the Gulf Coast where I had grown up. I know what's supposed to be there and I know what's not there anymore because of the storm.
"The neighborhood was just terrible, but the house was standing."
Against all odds, Robin found her family safely inside--shaken up by the storm but safe.
After Amber helped nurse Robin back form the brink of death, they are far closer than mere family.
In the pages of her new book Everybody's Got Something, the title of which is based upon sort of folk wisdom handed down from her mother, Robin couldn't help but wax poetic about just what an amazing person Amber really was (via People Magazine):
"Amber, thank you for giving me your blessing to share what you mean to me and my family.
"You shy away from the spotlight, but I'm proud that many now know what I've always known...You are a phenomenal, beautiful woman in every way.
"Bless you for selflessly being the wind beneath my wings."
Well that's beautiful...even if Robin did stil that last bit from a old Roger Whittaker album.
