Robert Jones, a former professional football player, has been accused of trying to hire a hit man to murder his agent. The ex pro, who won three Super Bowl Championships with the Cowboys before shuffling around the league to various other teams in his ten-year career, supposedly tried to have his agent killed over some undisclosed beef. Jones denies the allegations strongly and insists that the only shady character in this story is a man named Theodore.
Last week, someone went to police and told them that retired linebacker Robert Jones had asked him to ice his agent (via TMZ):
"According to the document, a 47-year-old man named Theodore told police that Jones approached him and tried to hire Theo to take out Jones' agent.
"Theo told cops he refused -- and Jones (who's also 47-years-old) -- responded by saying he is a 'gangster' and he would make Theodore 'disappear'".
Jones, a native Virginian, claims that the only criminal here is Theo, for dragging his good name through the dirt and lying to police (via International Business Times):
"Jones, a three-time Super Bowl-winning player with the Cowboys and a former first round pick, said the man making the allegations was a distant relative who 'filed a false police report,' according to TMZ Sports. The site said Jones, 47, 'absolutely denies' the allegations.
"Jones has neither been arrested nor has been filed charges in connection with the investigation being handled by Cleveland police. He claimed the accuser 'has recently been attempting to extort money' from him and his family and planned on taking legal action."
According to Jones cousin Theo is just a low-down money grabber trying to get a quick pay day. Since no arrests have yet been made it is likely that cousin Theo is just a garden variety moocher turned scam artist.
