Undertaker, one of the most beloved figures in the history of the WWE, is uncertain whether he'll return. Sting, one of the most beloved wrestlers of all time, is on the cusp of ending his career at WWE despite never having stepped through their ropes until now. And now there are rumors that he will definitely be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame though he hasn't yet signed a contract. So with the recent stock troubles and firings of talent and behind the scenes staff, are the budget cuts (at least in part) to make room for Sting?
With all the moving and shaking going on at WWE, it's hard not to wonder what is happening behind the curtain. Vince McMahon has cut a lot of dead weight in recent weeks. Is he trying to make room in the bottom line for a certain new Superstar? (via Sports World News):
"... McMahon let go of head WWE writer Jay Gibson just a day after releasing 11 talents from the roster... The budget for NXT has already been cut when it comes to production and post-production. The WWE is slated to evaluate the roster of NXT soon and there is expected to be a number of releases announced in July to further those cuts... The WWE is 'staggering' the cuts to be fiscally responsible on Wall Street in order to not set off any internal panic."
Meanwhile WWE seems prepared to roll out the red carpet and throw a big bag of money at the Stinger in order to entice him. Though the WWE's direction is definitely heading for a youth movement, the addition of a beloved and respected veteran like Sting could pay intangible dividends. Sending Sting off the right way could buy a lot of goodwill from wrestling fans (via Cage Side Seats):
"The latest is a bit from PW Insider that claims 'there's been a lot of talk' of putting Sting in the WWE Hall of Fame in 2015 the night before WrestleMania 31 in Santa Clara, California. The reason provided is that the 'Showcase of the Immortals' next year is in his 'home state'".
