Tonight is the night you have been waiting. The new singing competition Rising Star premieres on ABC. The show but a new spin on the time honored talent search by allowing fans to vote live. That doesn’t mean that are not any need for judges. The show has four of them, including: country star Brad Paisley, rapper Ludacris, pop-diva Kesha (Ke$ha) and Josh Groban.
The official plot synopsis for the all new series reads:
“The series premiere of a reality show in which aspiring singers perform and are judged by TV viewers, who use an app to vote on the performances in real time.”
Of course any show with live results has an issue with time-zones.
Former American Idol producer Ken Wannabe is helming the new series. Wannabe recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the show’s time-zone issues:
"Everyone can vote and take part in the process. On the West Coast, they have their own voting bar. That means that if somebody on the East Coast gets 65 percent, and doesn't go through, and then the West Coast votes over 70 percent, that [contestant] will go through. We'll put up a graphic as it happens."
Co-Producer, Nicolle Yaron ( The Voice, Last Call With Carson Daly) also commented on the math:
"We met with mathematicians and statisticians. The chances of there being a big difference are apparently very small. We have this in place just in case, but we don't know that we'll ever have to use it."
Tune in tonight for the premiere episode at 9:oo p.m eastern, (you do the math for any other time-zones) on ABC.
