Is Russell Wilson the best quarterback in the NFL? If you ask 49ers tight end Vernon Davis he seems to think so. In a blog earlier this week, Davis diplomatically asserted that his teammate Colin Kaepernick was obviously the best (very diplomatic) but excluding Kap, the seven year veteran picks Dangeruss. After the emotional roller coaster of filing for divorce in April, that's gotta be good news for Wilson.
Vernon Davis gave props to division rival Seattle Seahawks' QB Russell Wilson this week when he declared him the greatest field general in today's NFL- sort of (via Sports Illustrated):
"I think among the 31 NFL quarterbacks who don't throw me passes, Russell Wilson is the best. He's got all the tools; he has the ability to keep the play alive, and he's very accurate with a strong arm. He exemplifies what it takes to be a winning QB in the NFL. If you asked me to choose based on record and experience, I'd take Tom Brady or Peyton Manning-but in terms of right now, my pick is Wilson."
Speaking of Colin Kaepernick, who usually gets beat on by critics for supposedly being classless and selfish, is now being criticized for not being selfish enough! His new contract allows for some extra spending for the 49ers over the next couple of years. But because of Kap's reputation, it is somehow being spun against him even though he deliberately took less money to help his team (via Fox Sports):
"Bottom line: The deal is extremely team-friendly for a franchise competing in perhaps the toughest division in football, one that is also home to the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks.
But the question for critics has been did the team take advantage of its young star for the sake of staying competitive in the long term."
