The World Cup is well under way now and the stress of high level competition often leads to some strange methods of release. One team in particular got into a mischievous mood when they decided to play a joke on their trainer. Team England's masseur had a bad day at the office when he got dunked into an ice bath. And some of Mexico's fans played a prank on their Argentinian counterparts with a clever bit of wordplay.
Before losing to Uruguay on Thursday some of Team England's players tried to boost morale by tying their masseur, Paul Small, to a chair and dunking him into a tub of ice water. Obviously it didn't help their game (via Telegraph UK):
"With most of the country on tenterhooks ahead of Thursday's do-or-die match against Uruguay, the England players managed to relieve the tension in their training camp with a wicked prank at the expense of their masseur.
"Steven Gerrard, the England captain, was the ringleader as he, Joe Hart and Glen Johnson carried Mr Small to the ice bath, which is used to help players' muscles recover after training."
Team Mexico, who are second in their group (probably because they are practicing instead of off playing pranks), let their fans have their fun and games for them. Some fans goaded a set of Argentinian fans into chanting for their beloved Lionel Messi before dropping a bomb on them (via Mirror UK):
"However, the melody of voices then takes an unexpected turn: instead of paying tribute to the 26-year-old superstar, the guys amend their chant to one idolising their own nation.
"'Messico, Messico, Messico' begins to ring out as the duped gals realise what has happened."
The Argentinian fans flipped the bird to the Mexican fans but did it with smiles on their faces.
