Former Broncos tight end Terrell Davis has been in the news lately, for a few very different reasons. He made the case for end zone dances, saying that the celebrations won't stop, they'll just get smarter. But on the more serious side he said in an interview last week that he suspected his time in the NFL may have led to some memory loss via undiagnosed concussions.
Davis has a notion about the NFL's recent stance on end zone celebrations. He said in his opinion refs are mainly targeting taunting gestures. He added that Calvin Johnson, aka Megatron, will likely still do his end zone dunk, he'll just work around the limitations (via TMZ):
"The Denver Broncos legend -- who famously used the Mile High Salute when he scored -- was at LAX this weekend when he told us ... just because the NFL is cracking down, doesn't mean we've seen the end of the 6-point celebration.
"And one of the men leading the charge to get around the rules, according to TD, is one of the best players in the league."
On a more serious note, Davis brought up the issue of concussions in the NFL and speculated that he might be suffering from memory loss due to the violent nature of football, particularly at the professional level (via Argus Leader):
"'There are times when I ask the question, "Is that the result of me getting older, or was that because of playing football?"' says Davis, 41, who retired in 2002 and is now an analyst for NFL Network. 'My wife will send me to the grocery store to pick up something, and I'll walk in and say, "What am I here for?" I definitely struggle with memory issues, and it makes you wonder.'"
