Veteran tight end Marcedes Lewis is setting examples at team OTA's and off the field as well. In addition to making all the voluntary practices last week, he also made time to fly out to LA to see his sister graduate only to come straight back to Jacksonville and back to practice. He also took time to hang out with the kids at the football camp he sponsors in Long Beach, bringing some of his teammates along. For Lewis, it's all about doing the right thing, especially when it comes to women. His biggest advice for pro football players? Don't date cheerleaders.
Jacksonville's Marcedes Lewis is all about family and community. That's why he goes the extra mile to put in appearances at his camp and still makes it a priority to attend voluntary team activities (via Fox Sports):
"I know these people. I know everybody that's here. It's just a big old family. We try to make it special for the kids.
"There was never a question in my mind if I was going to make it back to practice or not. I understand what [Jaguars head coach] Gus [Bradley's] vision is. He kind of leans on some of the older guys like me... It's something that came easy. I know guys look up to me so... I try to lead by example."
One of the ways Lewis tries to lead by example is by resisting the urge to get down with professional cheerleaders, especially the ones on your own team (via TMZ):
"They say you're not supposed to dip your pen in the company ink ... and Jacksonville Jaguars star Marcedes Lewis says the same rule applies to NFL players -- don't date cheerleaders!!!
"...That's when Lewis broke it down for us - 'That's not cool ... it's all bad news.'"
