Former Cowboys running back Marion Barber III was detained by police in a Dallas suburb last Sunday. After initial reports that he was arrested the air has since been cleared. While no criminal charges have been filed it seems that Barber was hospitalized and being held for mental evaluation.
Early reports on the detention of Marion Barber last weekend said that five police cars were summoned to Barber's location in a Dallas suburb (via TMZ):
"We broke the story ... Barber was taken into custody in Texas around 8PM on Sunday evening -- and though cops aren't saying why they arrested the former Dallas Cowboys RB, it's clear they made sure they had enough manpower to control the situation.
"For the record, Barber was a PUNISHING player in the NFL -- and was known for trucking would-be tacklers with his violent running style ... so, yeah ... we get why cops would send the cavalry.
"... they spoke with Barber for roughly 2 hours before he was handcuffed and placed into a squad car."
Now the situation has been clarified, somewhat. While a call of a disturbance was place to area police his detention was for the purposes of mental evaluation, not technically an arrest (via ESPN):
"Mansfield police spokesman Thad Penkala said it wasn't clear what led to the calls that prompted a response from police Sunday night...
"Penkala said Barber was not arrested or facing charges. He said police wouldn't know whether he was still hospitalized because they wouldn't be notified."
It is still unclear the nature of the call or what the content of the conversation between Barber and the police was. Until further information is made available it seems that the mystery remains unsolved.
