NBC ‘Crossbones’ Marvel John Malkovich 2014 TV Show Blackbeard Saves Toronto Man’s Life; Yasmine Al Massri Talks Pirate Zeitgeist [VIDEO]

Red 2 movies star John Malkovich may play notorious high-seas villain Blackbeard in NBC's 2014 pirate TV show epic, Crossbones, but he is an honest to god, real-life hero. The legendary thespian helped saved an elderly man's life in Toronto after the gentleman accidentally slit his own throat right in front of his wife. Sexy Crossbones co-star Yasmine Al Massri hasn't saved any lives, but that's alright. She is just happy to be a part of the current zeitgeist's Pirates of the Caribbean inspired obsession with all things pirate.

Last year while taking a cigarette break outside of Elgin Theatre in Toronto, where he was performing in The Giacomo Variations, Crossbones actor John Malkovich helped saved 77-year-old Jim Walpole's life after he fell on some scaffolding, while exiting a restaurant across the street, and accidently slit his own throat wide open.

The overly verbose Ohio native could hardly find all the words to describe Malkovich's selfless act to the Toronto Sun:

"[Malkovich] started to press on my neck. He said he was trying to stop the bleeding."

Crossbones sexpot Yasmine Al Massari hasn't saved any Canadian lives that she is willing to speak about, but the Lebanese actress was more than happy to discuss her love of Peter Pan with Spinoff.com:

"I am part of this generation with Pirates of the Caribbean and Peter Pan. I think we all grew up in this culture of pirates. Everything is pirates these days.

"I have a baby that is 21 months old, and I watch Disney Junior with him. A lot of those shows are about pirates.

"Even the T-shirts and pajamas I buy for him have pirate themes like, 'Aye-aye, argh and mate.'

"But, I definitely grew up watching pirates. I am especially fascinated with mermaids, and they are always coming out in pirate stories."

When you think about it that childhood fascination with mermaids really makes a lot of sense.

Let's just hope that John Malkovich is enough to save Crossbones from earlier death by network mid-season cancellation? [Insert walking the plank joke here.]
