If you have been on Facebook or Twitter in the past few days then you have probably heard the news that the legal drinking age has been changed to 25. Where this news is a little hard to swallow, the articles all have a photo that says ABC News so they must be true. Well that is until you look a little closer, (seriously you don’t even have to look closer, you just have to look) than you will find that the article making the rounds in not from ABC News, but from the Sunday Times Daily. The STD has infected the internet, spreading hoaxes without any basis in reality.
Bad news for college kids and good news for brain cells, because the legal drinking age has been moved up to 25. That is of course if you believe everything you read on the internet. The Sunday Times Daily reports on the legal age change, writing:
“As of August 2, 2014 legal age to drink will be 25. There has been controversy whether 21 is too young to make decisions. Alot of citizens state at that age they are not mentally responsible to drink. So the legislation at the White House has come to an agreement to have legal age changed to 25.”
The Sunday Times Daily website is designed to trick people via social networking. Seriously, it even says so on the website description:
“CREATE YOUR OWN FAKE NEWS AND TRICK YOUR FRIENDS BY SHARING IT ON FACEBOOK, TWITTER OR ANY OTHER SOCIAL NETWORK.”
Just so you are sure that we did not make this up, check out the Snopes article debunking the story.
