After a long and difficult playoffs, the LA Kings defeated the New York Rangers rather handily in 5 games. The ensuing parade and rally were great fun for fans, especially Mayor Eric Garcetti's profane speech at the Staples Center. As the Kings celebrated their second Stanley Cup Victory in three years, fans might be reminded of Jonathan Quick's spirited speech from 2012.
Before the festivities began on Monday the local lawmen took steps to ensure a fun, safe parade route for the citizens of Los Angeles to enjoy (via LA Times):
"The procession, which begins at Figueroa and 5th streets and ends at Staples Center, is expected to last 30 to 40 minutes, with multiple street closures in effect. The Kings will also host a sold-out hour-long fan rally at Staples Center starting at 1 p.m.
"'We have a very good plan in place,' said LAPD Commander Dennis Kato, referring to the stationed officers, a bomb squad in place and security cameras. 'This is a feel-good event. All we have to worry about is too many people in one place.'"
The rally at Staples Center was fun and safe, unless you're adverse to swear words. Mayor Garcetti admittedly broke the cardinal rule in politics: he used profanity in public! But the fans loved it and the rough and tumble hockey players loved it (via ABC News):
"Garcetti's curse actually continued a Kings championship tradition: Goalie Jonathan Quick infamously dropped a few profanities two years ago while praising his teammates during the same Staples Center rally. Before this year's parade, Quick laughingly said he had been banned from speaking this time."

The civic pride of winning a national championship in a professional sport must be immense. Congrats to the Kings and to the city of LA for an impressive run in 2014.
