From Coriolanus to The Hillbilly Shakespeare, Tom Hiddleston is going country. The Thor and Avengers villain is taking on the role of the iconic country singer Hank Williams. That is right folks, the Loki actor can soon be heard singing “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry" in the upcoming biopic, titled “I Saw the Light.”
Strike Entertainment’s Marc Abraham has been attached to pen the script and direct the movie, using Colin Escott 1994 biography about Hank Williams. Back in 2009, Abraham told Variety about the appeal of the of Williams:
“He was the first real star who went down as the result of his lifestyle, succeeded by Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin and Kurt Cobain. He destroyed himself, but for six years leading to his death, Hank had six songs each year in the top 10.”
Tom Hiddleston is currently working on the film Crimson Peek with Guillermo del Toro, alongside Sons of Anarchy's Charlie Hunnam. Last year Hiddleston spoke to Slash Film about how he jumped at the chance to work with del Toro:
“Guillermo’s an absolute omniscient about that particular genre of fiction, in literature, in cinema…His precision and passion...The script itself is bone chillingly terrifying. When I was reading it for the first time I had to get up and walk around the room, then sit down again because I was so scared. But it’s also so sophisticated. It’s actually a very mature film. It has a very sophisticated and adult sensibility that stems from what Guillermo sees as the root of all of this stuff, which is the gothic romance literature of the nineteenth century.”
