Cleveland Browns Coach Mike Pettine is still fielding questions about Johnny Manziel's off-duty activities and coach Pettine has continued to make it clear that he could care less. Whether it's cheeseburgers in Paradise or inflatable swans at a Texas pool party, Pettine is fine as long as Johnny's not breaking the law. He is dedicated to keeping the focus on football and to that end he has refused HBO's offer to shoot them on a reality show this summer.
Johnny Manziel is receiving lots of encouragement and approval from his teammates and coaches. Pettine especially has praised his hard work on the field, but insists that the rookie's personal life is none of his business (via USA Today):
"I would become concerned if it was something criminal, or if it was something that affected his job. I think there are a lot of our guys if, when they leave here and they were followed around, you'd get some very similar pictures. I don't know about an inflatable swan, but I think you'd still get some pictures."
Meanwhile the Browns won't be going Hollywood this summer. Coach Pettine exercised its option to refuse to appear on HBO's Hard Knocks (via Sports Illustrated):
"'There are positives and negatives to doing it,' said Pettine. 'It's not something I would say we'd never do, partly because the league can make us do it.'"
Participation is compulsory if the NFL makes the final decision. Cleveland, however, was able to opt out because they have a new head coach, a loophole that they won't have in future seasons. The Bears, however, aren't so lucky (via CSN Chicago):
"Chicago is in the running due to a rule the NFL put in place last year. The league is allowed to a force a team to let HBO film their training camp sessions if they meet a certain criteria. The requirements that allow teams to be exempt include: recently hiring a new head coach, a postseason appearance in one of the two previous seasons or has been on the show within the past decade."
