Rizzoli and Isles Season 5 is almost here. In just under a week the TNT drama returns. The network recently released a plot preview for the new season, promising dangerous cases. The show is also planning to pay tribute to Lee Thompson Young. Young, also known for his roles as the lead on The Disney Channel’s The Famous Jett Jackson and DC Comics Cyborg on Smallville, tragically took his own life last year.
The networks official synopsis for the all new season, reads:
“In season five, Jane and Maura will investigate more complex and dangerous cases than ever before, including the murder of a jogging mother that leads to the search for her missing baby, the pursuit of a killer who uses online ads to lure in the perfect candidate for murder, and the investigation of a man killed in his supposedly impenetrable doomsday shelter. The team will also deal with the loss of a dear friend and colleague as they say goodbye to Detective Barry Frost (Lee Thompson Young).”
Lee Thompson Young, who was reportedly struggling with bipolar disorder, took his own life last fall. Following his death, TNT released a statement, writing:
"We are beyond heartbroken at the loss of this sweet, gentle, good-hearted, intelligent man. He was truly a member of our family. Lee will be cherished and remembered by all who knew and loved him, both on- and offscreen, for his positive energy, infectious smile and soulful grace. We send our deepest condolences and thoughts to his family, to his friends and, most especially, to his beloved mother.”
Young was also known for his starring role in The Disney Channel’s Famous Jett Jackson, as well as a guest spot as the DC Comics superhero Vic Stone, A.K.A Cyborg in Smallville.
Rizzoli and Isles Season 5 premieres on June 17 on TNT.
