Obliviously, engaged to be married Michael Strahan didn't join Good Morning America, while still hosting Live with Kelly and Michael! and in the process of planning a wedding with fiancé Nicole Murphy, because of a lack of ambition. And word has it that the former NFL player retiree isn't going to put up with being relegated to on-set funny man like Today show's Al Roker. According to rumor, Twitter favorite Robin Roberts is also Strahan's corner- -attacking the producers attempt to use Michael as nothing more than an early morning jester.
Michael Strahan is the first NFL alum to seemingly have a successful run on television career outside of the game day commentators of ESPN and the network broadcasters.
Michael has avoided the pitfalls of his friends like Tiki Barber by sheer force of personality and the drive to be taken seriously, and things are reportedly not going to be any different now that he is landed is new Good Moring America gig.
According to one insider Michael is already tired of being used as nothing more than a prop for the others to interact with the energy gets low (via National Enquirer):
"Michael thinks they want him on the morning news just to be funny, crack a few jokes and lighten the mood.
"He believes they see him as their Al Roker.
"Michael doesn't want to end up like that...he doesn't want to become a clone of Al Roker."
Thankfully for Strahan he isn't the only GMA co-host to feel this way.
The source says that Good Morning big-wig Robin Roberts is also starting to insist that Mike be taken more seriously:
"Robin showed she is excellent at being a serious newswoman, but she had to beat the doubters first.
"Now she's telling producers that Michael is very intelligent and should be included when they talk about big news events on the show."
Hey now, there can only ever be one Al Roker...unless the made an extra one out of all the skin they cut off him.
