Melo just turned 30, y'all. Carmelo Anthony's recent birthday bash was a big to do, but there is bigger story developing (or not). Despite the massive amount of money the Knicks power forward stands to make by staying in New York there is a persistent rumor that he is looking to move to Boston to play with the Celtics. The only problem with the rumor is that it is completely baseless, like a game of telephone. Though Anthony is used to headlines. The ten-year veteran, whose early 2004 possession bust for marijuana set the tone for a controversial career. The pot-smoking former Nugget has consistently put up good numbers throughout his career, though.
Carmelo Anthony's birthday bash was not a star-studded event, but was very upscale. Though at one point Chris Paul did call over speakerphone and asked Melo to join the Clippers under their new owner (via New York Daily News):
"Towards the end of the dinner, one of the biggest bottles ever made by Dom Perignon was presented to Carmelo as a gift - an engraved Methuselah of Dom Pérignon Vintage 1998, which read 'Happy 30th Birthday Melo,'. The rare 6-liter bottle is valued at over $35,000."
One thing that Anthony likely won't be celebrating is a departure from the Knicks, despite persistent rumors of a possible move to Boston. When asked about the possibility of acquiring Kevin Love from Minnesota, Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo answered by saying that it was pointless to offer up hypotheticals.
He then offered an off-the-cuff hypothetical of his own, which somehow became an active deal in the works in translation (via Boston.com):
"In answering a question about Love Monday, Rondo tried to comment on the absurdity of answering speculative questions about another player.
"'We could talk about Kevin [Love] all day or we can insert Carmelo [Anthony's] name in there all day' Rondo told reporters. 'Nothing's happened. We have a couple days left before the draft. Things might shake up around that time. You never know. It's still a long summer until the beginning of training camp.'"
