As the investigation of the alleged sexual assault involving San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick draws to a close a recording of a 911 call provides some insight. Meanwhile, Kap can get excited about his new contract. Expected to come out to over $110 Million over six years, there is still plenty of room left in the salary cap thanks to a recent bump in the allowance.
Colin Kaepernick still denies any wrongdoing in the alleged sexual assault investigation. Reportedly a woman claiming to know him who says that she blacked out in his apartment in Miami this April as two of Colin's friends came into a bedroom where she was lying naked waiting for Kaepernick.
Recordings of two phone calls to 911 obtained by TMZ adds some interesting texture to the narrative of this story (via TMZ):
"...Both callers say a naked women is refusing to leave the Miami apartment where the alleged incident occurred.
"The two calls were made around midnight on April 2nd by two men -- one who identifies himself as 'security' and another by a man who claims to be a friend of the person who lives in the apartment.
"Both callers report a black woman is laying naked on a bed in the apartment and is refusing to leave until she speaks with a certain unnamed man."
San Francisco showed a big commitment to Colin Kaepernick in their new agreement but the stepped contract is almost entirely performance-based. Not that that's a bad thing. That leaves some wiggle room for San Fran to go out and build the team (via NFL.com):
"According to terms of the contract revealed to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport by someone who has seen the agreement, it follows the recent NFL vogue for so-called 'pay as you go' deals. Kaepernick will get a little more than $13 million fully guaranteed -- nothing to sneeze at, but the only real guarantee."
The extra cash saved in the bonus model allows the 49ers to acknowledge how much they value Kaepernick while protecting themselves against an early injury or a meltdown. Kaepernick and the 49ers are investing in each other.
