Wrestling fans sure were shocked when Seth Rollins turned heel and caught Shield teammate Dean Ambrose with a home-run chair shot on RAW Monday. It's such a shocker some commentators aren't sure if they believe it. The thinking is, fans might not accept that Rollins has joined Evolution. They might not even be able to conceive of it. So some rumor mongers and theory pushers have it in their heads that the whole thing is a double-cross. If Rollins infiltrates Evolution and then turns on them, what a story would that be? Speculation is even more fun than actually creating something because no one can fire you if it goes wrong.
If WWE is committed to this direction it could work. Seth Rollins does have a dark edge. But some fans are lamenting the possible disintegration of the Shield (Bleacher Report):
"Sure, WWE can call up an NXT star to be The Shield's third member, but will that person have the same chemistry with Ambrose and Reigns that Rollins did? It's a long shot. The original lineup truly did have something special.
"On the bright side, this isn't actually an irreversible mistake. If WWE does conclude it has made an error in turning Rollins, it's possible to rectify it."
It's possible that WWE have multiple avenues to choose from, including a 360 where Rollins reveals that the whole thing was a sting operation (via Cage Side Seats):
"Good old JR fired up the BlogBQ to serve up his thoughts:
"'RAW was an o.k. show with a hot ending. Therefore the thing that most people will take away from the broadcast was Seth Rollins turning his back on Ambrose and Reigns and apparently aligning himself with HHH and Randy Orton.'
"Or did he?'"
It seems Jim Ross and Steve Austin also feel a little double-double-cross coming on.
While there is no indication whether the whole thing is an elaborate ploy to Trojan Horse the Authority that would make a lot of fans happy. To preserve the Shield, there is no replacing Seth Rollins.
