V Stiviano Brutal Attack: Assault Charges Hate Crime After Taxicab Beating

V Stiviano, former assistant to Donald Sterling, and the alleged perpetrator of the tape leak that got him banned from the NBA (bravo) was the victim of a brutal attack in New York last Sunday. Stiviano got into an altercation with two men who were harassing her and her sister in a restaurant. According to Stiviano, the men followed them to a taxicab and began beating her, punching her in the face. One man is in custody facing charges of assault as a hate crime.

On Sunday night, Stiviano and her sister were in New York for an interview with Anderson Cooper which was cancelled. Following an argument with Dominic Diorio and another man, Stiviano knocked the man's cell phone from his hand as he was trying to take pictures of her. The two men were allegedly hurling racial slurs at her and calling her a prostitute.

According to the report the men then followed the sisters out of the restaurant and continued berating them even as they entered a cab and then they began assaulting her (via CNN):

"Outside the hotel, the official said, Diorio allegedly directed more slurs at Stiviano, who got into a cab with her sister. One man held the cab door open, while the other yelled at her and punched her in the face. The man who held the door then spit at her, the official said."

Stiviano communicated a statement through attorneys (via ESPN):

"On behalf of Ms. Stiviano, we would like to express our gratitude to the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force for acting with utmost courtesy, professionalism and swiftness... We know that many in the news media have access to and have been able to communicate directly with Ms. Stiviano. We now request that in light of the pending criminal matter and in an effort to not taint the proceedings, that Ms. Stiviano not be contacted directly and that all media requests be forwarded to her attorneys Mr. Mac Nehoray and/or Ms. Alaleh Kamran."

The heinous actions of these men should be brought to bear. Even though V Stiviano has invited a level of public scrutiny by engaging with the press there is no excuse for the invasion of privacy or the misogynistic violence that was exacted on her. Shame on Dominic Diorio.
