Former NBA star Mugsy Bougues is getting into yoga! The ex-Charlotte Hornets point guard even hosted a yoga event in Charlotte recently. Even more exciting, his former team is returning to its original home. Yes, the Bobcats are now the Hornets, and the team has absorbed the history of the Hornets from its inception to its relocation to New Orleans in 2002. New Orleans, meanwhile, has become the Pelicans. It's not as confusing as it sounds. Ok, it is kind of confusing. RIP New Orleans Hornets.
Mugsy Bogues has been bitten by the yoga bug. At 49, the yoga novice says he's a natural because of his size (via TMZ):
"The 5'3" NBA legend is a newbie to the practice ... but he's already falling in love with it.
"But Bogues says size doesn't matter when you're on the mat -- telling TMZ Sports, 'As the smallest player to ever play [in the NBA], doing yoga comes quite natural to me.'"
"He added, 'So when I hit the child's pose position, I felt like I was in a crib.'"
Meanwhile, his old team has been reborn. The Charlotte Hornets moved to New Orleans in 2001. Then in 2004 the Charlotte Bobcats were born. This year, New Orleans changed their name to the Pelicans and allowed the Bobcats to revert to Charlotte's original name, even adopting the records of the 88-2002 Hornets franchise.
Charlotteans are energized by the mascot change. It's as if the soul of the team has returned. The Hornets even allowed FSU senior Ian Miller, a Charlotte native, join in a pre-Draft workout last month (via Charlotte Observer):
"'This was a dream come true,' said Miller, who averaged 13.7 points for the Seminoles as a senior last season. 'Being raised in this basketball culture - of Muggsy Bogues and Dell Curry, Larry Johnson - being able to stand up for your community and get some hometown love.'"
