Who said fairy tales don’t come true? The storybook genre is undergoing a great renaissance as of late. Disney is currently at the top of the box office with the live-action Sleepy Beauty film, Maleficent. The studio is also gearing up for a few more live-action adaptations. The teaser trailer for the upcoming Stephen Sondheim musical Into The Woods, starring Johnny Depp and Cinderella have already been released. (Check below to see them.) Now Disney has announced that the beloved classic Beauty and The Beast will also be adapted into the live-action format.
Once upon a time fairy-tales were only for reserved for storybooks, cartoon movies and the occasional Broadway musical. However, fairy tale characters have become a fixture of the modern day live-action movie going experience. Recently we have seen Snow White and the Huntsman, Jack the Giant Slayer, Hansel and Gretel, Alice in Wonderland, Oz the Great and Powerful and Maleficent in the flesh on the big screen.
Now Disney is preparing its next wave in its storybook invasion. This Christmas Johnny Depp will tackle yet another classical Stephen Sondheim role in the live-action adaptation of the Broadway musical Into the Woods. Depp will play the big bad wolf ( who else?) in the upcoming musical film. Check out the teaser preview for the movie below:
Disney has also recently the very first teaser trailer for the upcoming Cinderella musical. Go ahead and check that one out too:
Earlier in the week Disney announced that Twilight: Breaking Dawn director Bill Condon will helm a new adaptation of the beloved classic Beauty and the Beast.
